A fortress on a peninsula
It occupies a narrow peninsula roughly 500 metres long, with a small harbour on its eastern side.
The castle is made up of two sections: the southern area, with the walled town and its towers, and the northern rocky acropolis.
Making a day of it
Methoni Beach is right there, one part sandy and the eastern side covered with pebbles, wide and long, looking out to the islet of Sapientza and back at the castle itself.
